Be Our Guest

Some waiters. I grabbed two color palettes off of colourlovers.com and used them to color these guys. The one on the left is a bright palette, the other two used the same more muted palette. Good fun. I think I'll try doing more stuff with limited palettes. Maybe only 3 colors next time. I think 3 is a good number.

Napkin Eel

I drew an eel on a napkin at dinner. It looked like he was probably saying something and this is what I thought of. "But Emily, 'all your ___ are belong to us' jokes are sooo 4 years ago!" I don't care! Take that!

View Outside the Window

I'm sitting here trying to work on my senior thesis animation. But instead, I animated a tiger (don't have a way to export it) and drew the view outside the window here. So here's the side of my neighbor's house. I like the house alright, but the trees didn't go so well. Ah well.

I'm going to try to do more paintings with better color. I still feel like everything i'm making in Painter is overly pastel and everything I make in Photoshop is overly saturated (although I know that the problem there has to do with color profiles. there's something wonky going on)/

Robot meets Bunny

This is the more final version. It's still just a quick sketchy thing, but it has a bit more detail and stuff than the first version.

Robot meets Bunny - WIP

Still working on it, but I had hoped to finish and post tonight. So I'll post what I've got so far.

Giddayup, Dino!

Girl riding a cyborg dino/dragon. I wish I had one of these. I'd save on gas and look awesome at the same time.

Some Bears

There's a pool on flickr for Bears in Ill Fitting Hats. Impossible to resist. I have one colored bear - he works at a gas station, but he also smokes. It's a poor idea, but to be frank, he doesn't look like the brightest bulb. Also, Some pen drawings of other bears in ill fitting hats.

I guess I should start working on my senior thesis again. Bears were a fun distraction.

Just putting off writing an essay.

Cheshire Cat

I'm still thinking about doing something for that Alice competition, and so every so often an Alice drawing just pops out. This time it's the Cheshire Cat. I'm not overly happy with it - I think I'd like to go in a more interesting direction than just a regular cat with a big smile. But anyways, the first image is what I came up with on my first round in Painter. Then I did some color adjustments in Photoshop and then painted over some stuff in Painter again. That's the second image. I want to get away from all these pastels I keep using.

Chris Appelhans
has some great Alice illustrations.

In other news, "Enchanted" is number one at the box office this weekend. Go Enchanted! I loved that movie and highly suggest you go see it if you enjoy animation or happiness.

The Littlest Fanart

Here are some people. I'm pretty proud of the girl's hair. And also, the tiniest fan art. As you can see, The Incredibles, Star Wars and Bone are all important to me.

Hazy Rabbit Afternoon

Here are some bunnies hanging out on a hazy afternoon. I wonder if I should redo their faces so that there's more going on. I had another version where the two rabbits on the left were sort of flirting and the one on the right was looking slightly scandalized.

Don't you know who I am!

I was drawing an innocent werewolf/bunny/bear and Jessica said it was like "Burwulf" which lead to me drawing BEARWULF. Note the sword conveniently covering the fact that he has no pants. This is actually relevant to the movie Beowulf. Beowulf is not so good, by the way.

Steampunkish Cyborg Carnie

I blame the desire to draw a carnie on Carder. He seems to evoke a desire to draw carnies. What a unique gift. I was in a bit of a weird state of mind and it started to turn into a weird drawing

Birch Bear

Polar bears are hard to see in birch forests.

I think that this image may be a little bit too inspired by a couple different designs, but hey, it's late and this was in my head.

Let's Do This

This guy considers himself a bit of a DaVinci.

I was looking for something to draw from reference and found a picture of a tiger. I was just looking to practice a bit of color and try out the pen tool in Painter. My original reference was here

And here's what made me decide that I should probably try to do a bit more stuff from reference. A drawing of a desert in oranges.

This guy isn't really sure where he is. For that matter, where is everyone else?

That's all I've got for today! In the next couple days I'll be posting screenshots of an animation that I just finished.

Little Explorer

I was showing my friend how Painter can mix colors in a handy little mixer and I ended up with this color palette. It's been taunting me ever since, looking so pretty on the side of the screen. So here's a little picture with it.

A Little Late for Halloween + An Animation

For you today I have a halloween picture that I drew for my little sister. She has a penguin friend we made up named Phil. She told me that he dressed up as a guy in a tuxedo (penguin suit! lol) for Halloween. So here he is giving out candy to penguin kiddies. This story made have led you to beleive that my sister is around 6 years old, but no, she's 19. Hooray for imagination. Hi Laura! :P

And here is an animation I did at my internship awhile ago when they didn't have anything for me to do, and told me to play with After Effects for a couple hours.

Bunny

I've been drawing a lot of night stuff for my films. It's all very dark and blue. So here is a lighter blue drawing! I can't seem to get away from blue. Bunnies are awfully cutesy, but I don't care.

Welcome to Monsterland

Here's a collection of sketches and stuff to start off. Hopefully I'll keep this up!

Alice and the white rabbit. I was hoping to maybe enter a comic book for that Alice in Wonderland competition at the end of the year, so this was one look I came up with:

Another Alice look:

Just a sketch

Pretending like I'm drawing a comic. After drawing this, I realized that the colors were very much inspired by Copper. Not only that - a week later, the new Copper came out and it was on a boat! Madness. Oh well, Kazu Kibuishi is amazing - there are far worse people to inadvertantly copy.

Paintings from life (using Painter):

Lastly, I've been feeling like I'm under a bit of pressure lately:
