I drew this for the Animajors Unite blog.

An Eagle

Sometimes I'm animating and I need a break so I open up a new file and just start playing around. This time I was wondering if fills in Flash go "behind" the lines, so that if you take away the lines, you're left with just the colors. It works, but I don't know how to just select lines, so I had to select each one individually and delete it. I'm hoping toonboom can also fill all the way behind the lines so that you can delete the lines and just have color - I like the idea of having the color separate from the line art in case I need to make adjustments. Anyway, this is an eagle I did in Flash. This was quite the ramble for a blog that almost no one reads. :D

Farmer

So, I just discovered the ink stuff in Painter. It's really fun. Here's a farmer.

Bongo

I went over to the Natural History Museum today and painted this guy. The ever present small children are even more in awe when you draw with a computer.

National Geographic

Working from reference on a couple speed paints. I think the angler fish is more interesting than the snow leopard. The leopard is rather washed out.

Phil Goes Fishing

Spring semester and my sister needed a new planner cover. So here's Phil the penguin going fishing. Whee! Didn't end up unsaturated this time. Too saturated? Nah... it's spring.

Corner of my room

How exciting! The corner of my room. I was trying to get the colors relatively right while keeping a limitedish palette. I dunno about all this color business... It's all rather tricky.

Musk Ox

Went to the Natural History Museum to draw after class today. Whee musk oxen! I had my screen on low brightness to conserve battery, but that means I was seeing darker colors than I was actually drawing with. Oh well.

The Early Years

I was cleaning and I found a lot of drawings from elementary school. I really liked dinosaurs. We had a fun fake airbrush that you used with Crayola markers that I used with a dinosaur stencil.

I also found a ton of these cards with pictures of dinosaurs on them - maybe 20 of them? I made up a lot of dinosaur characters after reading Dinotopia, apparently.

Also, there's my first 3D character from when I was about... 11? I used this weird little program called "3D World" that came with our computer.

I found a million little notebooks that had the first couple pages filled with drawings and the rest blank. I loved notebooks, but I could never keep just one going.

Be Our Guest

Some waiters. I grabbed two color palettes off of colourlovers.com and used them to color these guys. The one on the left is a bright palette, the other two used the same more muted palette. Good fun. I think I'll try doing more stuff with limited palettes. Maybe only 3 colors next time. I think 3 is a good number.

Napkin Eel

I drew an eel on a napkin at dinner. It looked like he was probably saying something and this is what I thought of. "But Emily, 'all your ___ are belong to us' jokes are sooo 4 years ago!" I don't care! Take that!

View Outside the Window

I'm sitting here trying to work on my senior thesis animation. But instead, I animated a tiger (don't have a way to export it) and drew the view outside the window here. So here's the side of my neighbor's house. I like the house alright, but the trees didn't go so well. Ah well.

I'm going to try to do more paintings with better color. I still feel like everything i'm making in Painter is overly pastel and everything I make in Photoshop is overly saturated (although I know that the problem there has to do with color profiles. there's something wonky going on)/

Robot meets Bunny

This is the more final version. It's still just a quick sketchy thing, but it has a bit more detail and stuff than the first version.

Robot meets Bunny - WIP

Still working on it, but I had hoped to finish and post tonight. So I'll post what I've got so far.

Giddayup, Dino!

Girl riding a cyborg dino/dragon. I wish I had one of these. I'd save on gas and look awesome at the same time.
